Themes and Organizations

One Health

On March 17, 2022 four international agencies, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) signed a groundbreaking agreement to strengthen cooperation to sustainably balance and optimize the health of humans, animals, plants and the environment, in the Quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a new era of One Health collaboration. One Health is an approach calling for “the collaborative efforts of multiple disciplines working locally, nationally, and globally, to attain optimal health for people, animals and our environment.”

Sustainable Gastronomy

According to FAO, Sustainable Gastronomy regards cuisine as a sustainable practice that takes into account where the ingredients are from, how the food is grown and how it gets to our markets and eventually to our plates. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the UN General Assembly facilitate the observance of Sustainable Gastronomy Day, in collaboration with Member States, UN agencies and international organizations, as well as civil society, to raise public awareness of its role in sustainable development.

Corporate Sustainability

The Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility initiative, with more than 25,000 corporate participants and other stakeholders in over 167 countries. It is a voluntary initiative launched by the UN to encourage businesses and organizations worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, as embodied by the Ten Principles related to human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption.
